WiR Scenario 5/6- Grishnakh's End/The White Wizard

NOTE: This is our first Tabletop Simulator battle report.

Merry and Pippin run aimlessly into the forest to escape the carnage of the camp. As the sounds of battle fade, they believe that they are safe. This is when a furious and wounded Grishnakh comes stomping through the bushes, yelling threats and curses. He has pride to avenge and murder in his eyes!

Grishnakh may opt to draw another card once per game, as movement for this is decided by cards.

This was played as a best of 3, with the best one written up for the winner.

Played with: CM

Grishnakh’s End

The Hobbits get to their feet but are slowed. Merry moves 3” and Pippin 2”. Grishnakh is in a jog and moves 4”.

The next turn Grishnakh sees himself getting closer and manages to sprint 6”, almost onto their heels already!

The Hobbits move. Merry goes only an inch, while Pippin panics and surges forward 4”. Grishnakh smelling blood gets priority again…

…He sprints and engages both Hobbits getting in front of them!

He wins the fight and lands a wound on Pippin rolling 4 and 3, then uses a might to score a 2nd! Pippin is smacked to the floor and lies injured.

Grishnakh gets another priority and attacks Merry again, scoring another wound. But Merry saves it with fate. But the following turn the orc once again gets priority and causes the second wound, Merry is also down. As Grishnakh triumphantly draws his knife, the Hobbits’ shrieking causes Treebeard to stir. Grishnakh sees this and squeals, before turning tail and fleeing into the forest, never to be seen again. Presumably, he was slain by an ent.

WiR Scenario 4- Ambush at Night

The surviving Uruk scouts of Amon Hen led by Ugluk continue their march back to Isengard with their captives. On route, they join up with Grishnakh, Snaga and a band of orcs and later on Mauhur and his own scout unit. Knowing that they are being pursued by the three hunters, they have been running, until eventually the orcs refuse to move any further without a rest.

As they form their camp and food is given out, discontent arises as ideas of dismembering the prisoners are raised, but Ugluk will not hear of it. Grishnakh slides towards the Hobbits in the middle of the arguing, when suddenly a spear strikes him from behind...the riders of Rohan begin their ambush with Eomer at the helm!

No previous scenarios affect this one.

Played with: KH

Ambush at Night

The Rohirrim advance. Following the spear that hit Grishnakh, a volley of bows kills an orc and an uruk. The Uruks return fire and kill a rider. To kill 75%, evil need to kill 15, good need to kill 21.

Grishnakh crawls after the Hobbits. The Rohirrim engage!

Heroic combats are called by Captain Gamdor of Rohan, Ugluk, Mauhur and Snaga. Gamdor and Snaga fail theirs. Snaga is wounded.

Ugluk succeeds and hurls himself at Gamdor! In the combat, Ugluk brings him down to 1w, 0f.

Meanwhile, Mauhur flanks Eomer, who loses 2f. End of the turn, 5 riders are dead to 7 of evil.

The next turn, the Rohirrim lose the Heroic move. Ugluk pins a rider and Gamdor. Eomer is also pinned.

In the combats, Ugluk is wounded by Gamdor. And more riders are surrounded and slain. End of the turn 9 riders are dead to 10 evil.

Eomer manages to wound Mauhur.

Ugluk once again faces Gamdor 1 on 1 and manages to slice through his leather armour, slaying the Captain.

Eomer makes up for the loss by riding down Mauhur! 10 riders to 15 evil are dead.

However, Grishnakh manages to catch Pippin by the ankle! Merry turns to help his friend! Pippin saves himself with fate!

Ugluk spots the leader of the assault upon his camp! He roars and charges in! Managing to cause two wounds on his horse, after Eomer uses horse lord and his last fate.

Beside them, Grishnakh squeals triumphantly as he grabs both Hobbits! Merry manages to stamp on his wrist and Pippin throws a stone in his face! (2 6s!) Grishnakh fails his fate and is out.

Ugluk and Snaga attack the Marshal of Rohan as a duo!

The Hobbits escape into Fangorn!

But the surviving uruks and orcs manage to kill enough of the Rohirrim to claim victory, and eventually Eomer is wounded and must flee as Ugluk gets him.

WiR Scenario 3: The Second Battle of the Fords of Isen

With the loss of Theodred, the defence of the fords has fallen to Erkenbrand, who has Grimbold defending the ford itself, amongst his men is Gaerwine, the surviving captain of the Westfold. Elfhelm patrols the Eastern side of the river expecting attack, which comes when a pack of warg riders and a unit of Dunlending horsemen attack. While their cavalry is tied up fighting off this assault, Grimbold comes under attack by an army of uruk-hai led by a captain named Gurluk and Dunlendings led by Thrydan Wolfsbane. Grimbold is isolated.

No previous scenarios influence this one.

We added a Dunlending chieftain to balance the adding of the Rohan Captain and for flavour.

Played with: JW

The Second Battle of the Fords of Isen

Grimbold and Gaerwine both stand their ground on the ford prepared to meet the charge of Gurluk, the Uruk Capt leading the assault, Gorulf and Rond, a Dunlending Chieftain.

Shots are exchanged at the river as the Dunlending cavalry, led by Thrydan charges towards the left flank.

And to their right, the wargs come pelting in.

However, Elfhelm and his riders come to their aid! Grimbold and Gaerwine bravely step onto the opposite bank to meet their opponents.

However, they’re caught off guard as the uruks and dunlendings hit them faster than expected and they get no chance to throw their spears. In the blink of an eye, Gorulf has overpowered Gaerwine and slain him. His hopes of avenging his dead father chopped to pieces by dual wielded axes! Grimbold deflects Gurluks sword and narrowly misses the uruks neck with his back swing. Gurluk is out of fate.

While Thrydan slays two riders, they make up for it by taking out several of his horsemen!

Elfhelm calls a heroic combat and several of the warg riders are quickly slain.

As the Rohirrim brace against the onslaught, Gorulf calmly walks through the gap and starts hacking apart the rear. Rond enters the fray with a kill.

Thrydan finds himself in danger as the riders envelope him and his last two horsemen. As he fights for his life a sword sweeps across his thigh, but using his remaining might he overcomes his opponent and slays them!

A few riders remain behind to mop up the surviving warg riders but one mysterious orc with a dwarven shield continues to fight them off and kills a rider. Rohan is winning the cavalry skirmish!

However, the defence at the river is failing. Another severe blow is dealt as Gorulf with several Dunlendings surround Grimbold. Gorulf deals the death blow and a total of 11 wounds bring down the captain. Grimbold dies on the fords of the Isen!

The remaining evil cavalry attempt to hold back the riders from saving the fords.

The orc is finally knocked down and escapes the battle! Urug vows to meet the Rohirrim again!

Elfhelm charges into the river trying to save the battle as best he can!

On the Ford, Rond rushes out and faces the Rohan Captain. He manages to sweep Elfhelm off his horse with his axe! Some loyal men drag their captain away from the battle to safety.

With the defeat of Elfhelm, the little resolve the Rohirrim had left begins to crumble. They fall quickly to their overwhelming enemies.

The riders, in one last act of defiance, manage to dismount Thrydan!

The Rohirrim left over, are all slain by the numerous opponents.

The now unopposed Isengard forces pour across the Isen unchecked! They ravage the lands of Rohan. Gurluk returns to Isengard, where he is named the commander of Saruman’s army to besiege Helm’s Deep.

Thrydan’s thigh wound quickly becomes infected in the following days and he passes due to it. Gorulf becomes the new leader of the Dunlendings.

WiR Scenario 2- The First Battle of the Fords of Isen

As the Westfold is burned, Theodred rushes to attack the forces of Isengard unawares. What he doesn't know is that it is a trap. As he crosses the Isen, he and his men are ambushed. Grimbold is rushing to his aid with Elfhelm also on route with his Eored, but the prince of Rohan is isolated.

Due to evil's victory in 'Burning of the Westfold' reinforcement rolls for Elfhelm get -1.

Played with: CM

The First Battle of the Fords of Isen

Good uses a Heroic Move. With a great warcry, Theodred charges across the ford straight into the enemy lines, leading his men with him. He slams into Thrydan! A throwing spear takes out a Dunlending warrior.

The evil forces wrap around attacking the flanks. Vrasku calls a heroic combat.

And uses it to punch a hole in goods right flank.

Thrydan fails to strike up high enough and Theodred unleashes the fury of the Rohirrim, bringing him out of the fight in the first turn.

Both sides call Heroic moves as they try to punch through/plug up the defences.

Theodred is on a roll as he slams into Vrasku and slays him along with both of his uruks! Grimbold reaches the ford and Theodred’s waivering unit is reinforced.

The extra troops gives Rohan a second wind as they’re able to push out and hold back the evil forces.

Theodred leads his troops in the frenzied fighting slaying an uruk and Dunlending…

…followed by an orc, warg and 2 more uruks! But as he fights like a demon, his troops are being slain around him by the swords of the uruk-hai and the axes of Dunland. Grimbold is following Theodred’s example and killing steadily but as numbers start to wane, calls his men to fall back to the ford. The battle is halfway through, on turn 6/12.

The uruk archers decide their time has come and that they will bring down the Prince of Rohan (blue). They draw their bow and fire, 4 miss and the last ends up hitting and wounding Grimbold (red) instead.

The archers on the opposite flank, who are just before Theodred, try their luck too. Two shots hit Theodred’s horse and it is killed. The Prince is dropped to the floor but is quickly up with his sword and shield.

Grimbold and the surviving warriors and Helmingas form a line on the islet. Theodred attacks a nearby scout. They hear a horn blown to the East…

…Elfhelm arrives, with an Eored of riders!

With their morale saved at its last, the Rohirrim fight on to hold the line! Grimbold slays two more scouts!

The riders close in as the situation gets desperate on the ford as evil begins to overrun them!

Theodred is surrounded again but manages to slay another two enemies.

With a loud blow of the horn, the riders slam into the evil frontline! The uruks and Dunlendings are crushed under the charge and one is speared by Elfhelm’s throw! The tide is turning in its darkest hour!

A very lucky scout (with no shield) survives a grand total of 24 strikes from riders before he finally falls!

Just as the day seems saved, Theodred has tired as he rolls triple 1 in combat. The warg rider and two Dunlendings have him trapped and none of his allies can do anything but watch in horror as the two Dunland archers repeatedly stab him with their daggers! The Prince of Rohan falls beside the ford, dead!

The last minute turn isn’t enough to score victory for evil though, the damage is done and the Rohirrim crush the last of them in a fit of fury!

Despite this, the last standing uruk archer manages to lash out and knock Grimbold down and out of the fight. But he is quickly dispatched by his allies!

DRAW
